Grimoire Page: The Path of Nun – Key 13: Death

Hebrew Letter: Nun (נ) Meaning: Fish
Tarot Key: XIII - Death (Thoth Tarot)
Path on the Tree of Life: Netzach to Tiphareth
Elemental Force: Water
Associated Archetype: Santa Muerte, The Abyssal Womb

✡ The Doctrine of Nun

The Hebrew letter Nun signifies the Fish, an ancient emblem of life concealed in mystery. In Qabalistic thought, Nun represents the First Matter that moves silently within the Infinite Ocean of the Universal Collective Unconscious. This Primordial Waters is the sacred matrix of all manifestation, the unseen Womb of the Divine Mother wherein all transformation begins.

Nun is the Path of Death, but not in the vulgar or mundane sense. It is the merciful erasure of the false self—the stories we spin, the illusions we clutch, the identities that bind.

Without Death's sacred function, we would remain trapped in our delusions, endlessly repeating narratives that no longer serve.

In truth, Nun is the exhalation of the Divine Breath, making way for the inhalation of rebirth. Through this rhythm, the Cosmos renews itself. Death is not an end; it is life transforming itself.

🌬 The Fish and the Ocean

You have been trained to be a fish searching for water, forgetting that you are both fish and sea. This is the sacred irony of the ego: the seeker is what it seeks.

"You are the Ocean that dreamed itself as a Fish in search of Water."

Nun reveals this truth by dissolving the seeker into the sought. In the baptism of Death, the ego sinks, and the Solar Self rises.

💭 Pathworking of Nun: Baptism in the Abyssal Womb

Purpose: Egoic dissolution and Solar rebirth through Qabalistic Death.

Tools: Thoth Death card, black & white candles, chalice of saltwater, incense of myrrh, sigil of Nun.

Invocation:

"I call upon the Sacred Waters of Nun, the Infinite Depths of the Abyssal Womb. Let the tides rise within me, and dissolve all that is false. I die to illusion, to awaken in Truth."

Visualization Guide:

  1. Descend into a vast river of black, still water.

  2. Greet the skeletal figure of Death who guides you into the depths.

  3. Feel your false self dissolve in the Abyssal Womb.

  4. From the void rises a six-rayed Solar Star: your reborn Self.

Closing Affirmation:

“What was false has passed. What is True remains. By the Light of Tiphareth, I Am reborn.”

✪ Sigil of Nun

The sigil combines the Hebrew letter “Nun” with symbols of:

  • Fish (motion of life in deep waters)

  • Scythe (clearing illusion)

  • Crescent Moon (the Womb of Night)

  • Skeleton (Egoic dissolution)

Use it to meditate or dream with. Place it under a pillow during times of inner transition.

📖 Continued Work

  • Journal all dreams or insights following your work with Nun.

  • Repeat the pathworking during the Dark Moon.

  • Follow Nun with pathworkings of Ayin (Devil) and Samekh (Art) to complete the triad of Solar rebirth.

Nun teaches: Death is not the end. It is the gate through which the Real Self emerges. What dies is the lie. What remains is Eternal.

"I Am the Deathless Light. I die only to remember I Am."
